Hello! I’m Ryan, a southbound Appalachian Trail SOBO thru-hiker. I wanted to create a place where I can share my experience on the trail with others.
Why McAfeehikes?
Long story short-really short. 25 years ago, my dad thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail completing his northbound hike at Katahdin. One of the most photographed parts of the AT, McAfee Knob in Virginia, was a highlight of his hike. In 2000 he revisited McAfee Knob with a ring in his back pocket…
September 2003 rolls around and I’m given the middle name “McAfee”. I was only a few months old when I first visited McAfee Knob, but it wouldn’t be until I was 19 when I visited it again.
