Day: 071

Date Written: 10/14/2024 | AT Mile 1177.3 | Day Total: 3.4 miles | Gain: 307 ft

Slow rolling this morning. Muscles aren’t sore but the bottoms of my feet are. Made some coco wheats this morning for breakfast and finished up yesterday’s journal.

Didn’t leave camp until a little after 9am. Both Kill Bill and I are planning on going to a hostel (Halfway Hideaway) in Harpers Ferry. I really want to visit the ATC Visitor Center and explore Harpers Ferry a bit more. The ATC Visitor Center also has log books and pictures dating back to 1999 when my dad hiked.

I took daytime picture of the WV/VA boarder sign then hiked on. Otherwise the 3.4 miles went by pretty fast. Only passed some power lines with a little view on either side.

Once at the parking lot we talked with some kind section hikers for a while before calling the hostel. Nobody answered so we decided to Uber to Walmart and try calling later for a shuttle to the Hostel.

Resupplied at Walmart and we were able to contact Halfway Hideway hostel for a shuttle. They’ve got a full kitchen so we’ve got tacos for dinner tonight and pancakes+bacon for breakfast. I’m going to pig-out while I’m in town after yesterday’s calorie burning day.

Showered and started a load of laundry before heading into town. We stopped first at the ATC visitor center first. Got the famous hiker photo and also asked about logs and pictures from 1999.

The gentleman working there today was amazing. Very helpful and made for easy conversation! Once he brought out the books I flipped through the pages and found 1sr Degree! I also found a little log message!

Headed into the heart of town for lunch. There were multiple comments on FarOut about Cannonball Deli so we decided to give it a try. Their menu was small but my Caesar chicken wrap was phenomenal!

After lunch we walked back to the hostel and relaxed. I made tacos for dinner and talked with the other section hiker, Beer Nut. He’s doing a 1/3 of the AT at a time.

Chatted with the family for a while then journaled. Looking forward to a good nights sleep.
